International Food Festival

A highly successful 'Festival of World Food' took place at school on the evening of Friday 28 September 2007 when over 100 parents,children and friends came along to sample a huge range of food and drink from 13 countries worldwide : Japan, Mexico, Uganda, Cameroon, Portugal, Italy, Jamaica,Thailand, France, Venezuela, England,Turkey and Ireland. Prior to the event, our school children had spent an afternoon preparing bunting, posters, maps, hats and quizzes to contribute to the inter-cultural flavour of the evening and their handmade decorations looked wonderful around the hall and stalls.

The food was prepared, presented and sold through the stalls by a hard working group of talented parents and staff who generously volunteered their time, cooking and presentational skills. The hungry customers were certainly spoilt for choice with the vast array of tempting tastes on every stall.

In addition to a wide variety of food, the stalls also offered the chance to sample drinks, juices and liqueurs from around the world including Pastis, Saki and fruit juices- the red lemonade and Guinness at the Irish food stall proved particularly popular with the customers! Mr Ratchford brought his homemade country vegetable soup and the English food stall also provided the opportunity to taste organic, locally grown produce.

Our Fair Trade Action Group ran a Traidcraft stall, selling a variety of fairly traded products such as chocolate bars and cookies as well as handmade purses, jewellery and gifts.

Our Festival of World Food proved to be not only another successful social event but also a wonderful way to celebrate the many nationalities and cultures within our school family. Many parents and children commented on how much they had enjoyed the evening and hope that we will make it an annual event.
