Welcome to Year 3 and Key Stage 2!

My aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 and enjoy the challenges that Year 3 brings, building upon and extending the experiences that children have had in Year 2.

Here is a copy of the newsletter sent home at the start of term.

Things to do at Home

There are some exciting topics planned this year that I hope your children will enjoy. The current topic is the Stone Age and I would encourage your child to research this topic independently at home by using the internet and the local library.

It is important that your child reads every night for at least for 10 minutes. This could be their school reading book, a favourite book, a comic or magazine, or any other appropriate reading material. Please record what they have read in their reading record book, as we have a Kindle that we use as a reward for regular reading at home.

It is also important that you help your child learn their times tables by regularly practising at home. The key tables for Year 3 are three, four and eight times tables.

Children will be given weekly spellings, maths and literacy homework. This will be based on work covered in class that week and so should be familiar to them. It is imperative that homework is completed to an acceptable standard and handed in on time so that it can be marked and prepared for the following week.

Spellings, Maths and Literacy homework to be sent home on a Friday and to be handed in on a Wednesday.

Please don’t hesitate to come and see me after school if you have any questions or queries.

For help with times tables your child can play Moon Maths
