WAR MUSEUM - OCTOBER 2009 Children at St Margaret Ward are evacuated! Class 4 visited the Imperial War Museum on the 19 October 2009. The trip was organised to enhance the teaching and learning of their history topic World War Two. The children were so inspired by this topic that they decided to dress as evacuees for the trip as this had also been their focus in literacy. The staff at the War Museum were delighted that they had made such an effort and there were lots of positive comments too from members of the public. This was a wonderful experience that really brought the topic to life. |

ECO
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES In an effort to make our school and local area a more environmentally friendly place, we now have an Eco-Schools Committee at St Margaret Ward. The team of ECO-WARRIORS meet together every week to represent the “green” views of their school. The Eco-Warriors already have plans in place to make our paper recycling more efficient, cut down on the energy we waste and make sure that the grounds are free of litter. The team have also had some great ideas about how we could make our two new classrooms, which are in the process of being built, more energy efficient. We can be very proud of our Eco-Warriors at St Margaret Ward, who have shown great dedication and understand that saving our planet is everyone’s responsibility. |

SCIENCE
WEEK - APRIL 2009 Here at St Margaret Ward School we had a 'Magical Science Week' from Monday 30 March to Friday 3 April. Children from Year 1 through to Year 6 explored a selection of the themes Magnetism, Mirrors, Indicators, Codes and Static Electricity. They were involved in daily investigations which they all thoroughly enjoyed. Each class presented their findings in an assembly at the end of the week. The children certainly enjoyed the week and were both mystified and entertained by their activities which have hopefully inspired them and enhanced the appeal of science. |

AT STOCKPORT PLAZA - JANUARY 2009 As a Christmas treat, our Reception and Class 1 went to Stockport Plaza to see the pantomime 'Cinderella'.It was the first time that most of the children and also some of the accompanying parents and staff had ever visited a theatre.Awe and wonder springs to mind as the children sat in their seats and gazed around. As we had practised the usual panto responses with the children beforehand, they could all fully participate. The visit was followed up by class art work in our Reception Class. FOREST - NOVEMBER 2008 Our Nursery children enjoyed their Christmas trip to Delamere Forest on Monday 17 November. Following an adventure walk along the nature trail, they gathered leaves and twigs to make collages and then searched to find the name plaques of all the reindeer. They then helped to choose three different sized trees for school and watched them being prepared and wrapped to go in their coach. Of course the main event was a visit to Santa's Grotto where they had the chance to let Santa know what they hope to get for Christmas. |

| CHESTER
- JUNE 2008 On Thursday 26 June Class 3 and 4 visited the Chester Grosvenor Museum. Both classes had been focusing on the Romans as their History topic this term and the trip was planned to enhance their learning experience. Within the museum each group had the opportunity to handle a range of artefacts, guessing what they may have been used for. An interesting object was a block which formed the structure for walls and floors which was especially designed to allow warm air to flow. The Romans designed their building with central heating - we were particularly impressed because they had underground heating. In the afternoon we paraded along the walls dressed as Roman soldiers. The children were led by a guide who chanted a typical Roman chant and the children had to follow - they all enjoyed this and found it great fun. They learned lots about the work of a Roman soldier and the importance of keeping safe from their enemies. |
