SCHOOL PLAYS AND CONCERTS

Christmas productions
Our Junior Advent Service, 'Peace on Earth'was a reminder to people about the true meaning of Christmas and how we should spread peace and love to others at this special time of year.
The children retold the story of God's wonderful creation and focused upon the need for us to look after the world, as God intended us to. The children reminded everyone that God sent his son Jesus to make a difference, to spread peace, love and joy around the world, by acting out the 'First Christmas' Story.

However, through wonderful singing, acting and dancing they told us all the true meaning of Christmas. With the help of some beautiful angels, rocking robins, sleepy shepherds and a dancing snowman, everyone had a great evening and went home with a truly special message.

The Christmas story was retold in a fun way with a loud and clear message at the end...'Let the Universe know his name!'

Summer Production
Our 2009 summer production, performed by our Keystage 2 children, was the ever popular musical 'Wizard of Oz'. The performance on Tuesday 14 July was a huge success and once again all the children involved rose to the occasion with their wonderful singing and acting, clearly enjoying every minute of their time on stage.

Music Week This is the first time that we have hosted a music week and between 18 and 22 May 2009, all classes from Nursery to Reception taught cross curricular through music. The children also learned about different genres of music and instruments from around the world. The week was great fun and culminated in an assembly where the children shared their learning with the whole school. As a result of Music Week, a lunchtime Recorder Club for Year 2 has been started.
Some of our children have been attending Sing for Fun at the local community centre with children from other primary schools in the area. The emphasis of the sessions is very much on enjoying singing and there will be an end of term show at the community centre to show off their talents.

Stations of the Cross

The Easter Story

For the first time ever, all children from Year 2 upwards were involved in presenting a thoughtful and personal version of the Stations of the Cross. Through their involvement, the children gained a much deeper and lasting understanding of what Holy Week actually means.

Parents and family members were invited to join us on Holy Thursday, 9 April for our morning Easter assembly and Stations of the Cross.

St Patrick's Day 2009
To celebrate St Patrick's Day this year our St Margaret Ward School Choir performed a repertoire of Irish songs for the whole school and parents on Tuesday 17 March.

As we also have some very talented Irish dancers in our choir, they performed a set of heavy jigs and reels.

To complete our celebration the choir performed the moving Irish legend ' The Children of Lir'.

All the children in school were given a brochure of 'Whats On' during the Manchester Irish Festival so that they could enjoy the festivities with their families.

Once again, our school choir joined around 8,000 other children from all over Manchester, in the 2008 Young Voices Concert at the M E N Arena in December. The children had been practising their songs for some weeks and many said it was as amazing experience to hear the whole arena sing together on the night. To add to the festive atmosphere, the children wore santa hats and many waved torches or light bands as they sang a variety of songs including pop songs and christmas carols. As always, the children had a fantastic evening and loved taking part in this brilliant annual musical event.

School Choir
Our school choir practice together throughout the year for many different events and concerts such as the Sale Festival Choir competition(winners in 2004), the Young Voices at the MEN Arena and the SVP Christmas party.
Each year our choir entertain the elderly parishioners of our parish at the Christmas party organised by the SVP. The children usually sing a medley of dance, sing along and Christmas songs and it really reminds the children of the true meaning of Christmas - giving to others.
