Ferronious the Roman Soldier
On Thursday 10 April 2008, as part of their history topic, Class 3 and Class 4 enjoyed a visit from 'Ferronious the Roman soldier' from Roman Tours. During the day the children had the opportunity to learn more about life in Britain before the Romans invaded and the impact they had, the evidence of which we can still see today.
The children were shown a range of artefacts relating to the period and some items were passed around the hall for closer inspection. One child was invited to dress as a Roman soldier and 'Ferronious' explained why each item of clothing would have been worn.
The highlight of the day was the opportunity for the children to march across the playground as a Roman army and go into battle, using shields to protect themselves -the effectiveness of this defensive grouping was tested by other children enthusiastically throwing bean bags!
