Campaigning
for Fair Trade As shown by our Fair Trade web page, we actively encourage our children to think about 'making a difference' and so we were particularly pleased to welcome Fair Trade campaigner, Mr Basil Wakefield. Mr Wakefield came to speak to our junior children on Thursday 8 November and in addition to relating interesting experiences from his trip to Africa, he also explained about the principles behind Fair Trade and how we can help to make Sale a Fair Trade town - the children are now keen to persuade their parents to buy more items showing the Fairtrade mark. |

Childhood
memories of The Second World War Class 4 have been learning about the Second World War and in particular, how the war affected children. In October, Mr Jim Law, a grandparent and parishioner of St Margaret Ward, kindly agreed to come in to talk to the class and share some of his own experiences from the war years. Although he was only a small child at the time, Mr Law had many interesting stories to tell and the children listened intently before asking their own questions. |

Anglian
Home Improvements Earlier in the year,Anglian Home Improvements launched a nationwide art competition, inviting children under 12 to draw a view of their 'window on the world', relevant to climate change, the environment and green issues. Lewis, one of our Year 6 children, was selected as a regional finalist and on Wednesday 12 September, Melanie Russell, Anglian's Director of Communications presented Lewis with his prize - £1,000 to spend on art equipment for our school and a commemorative stained glass window of his design to display in school. Ms Russell commented, "Lewis's design really caught our eye and worked well to demonstrate both the positive and negative aspects of todays society." As a school, all of our pupils worked hard on their designs and everyone was overjoyed to hear that Lewis had won one of the top prizes from Anglian. |
